About Author

Charles Carson is retired after forty years as a staff and freelance engineer in the BBC. He holds a BA, MA, and PhD from Queen’s University, Belfast. Dr. Carson has, for many years, documented and photographed items of technology associated with life in Ireland. He is a member of the Model Engineering Society of Northern Ireland, the Narrow Gauge Railway Society, and the 7 ¼” Gauge Society, which reflects his abiding interest in railways, especially those previously serving remote areas of Ireland.
