About Author

Ana Lucia Araujo is an assistant professor of history at Howard University. She holds a joint PhD in history and social and historical anthropology from Université Laval (Quebec, Canada) and École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (Paris, France). She also received a PhD in art history from Université Laval (Quebec, Canada). Dr. Araujo’s book publications include Romantisme tropical: l’aventure illustrée d’un peintre français au Brésil and Living History: Encountering the Memory of the Heirs of Slavery. In addition, Dr. Araujo has published in several journals, such as Luso-Brazilian Review, Canadian Journal of Latin American and Caribbean Studies, Ethnologie Française, Les Cahiers des Anneaux de la Mémoire, Lusotopie, and Ethnologies.
