About Author

Ivy Maria Lim is an assistant professor with the Humanities and Social Studies Academic Group at the National Institute of Education at the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. She received her D.Phil from the University of Oxford, an MA from Nanyang Technological University and a BA from the National University of Singapore. Her research interests include social history of the Jiangnan region, the maritime history of Ming China and history of the overseas Chinese in colonial Singapore.
