About Author

Tanya Fitzgerald is Professor of Educational Leadership, Management and History at La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia. She holds a PhD from The University of Auckland, an MEdAdmin and Dip Ed from Massey University, as well as an MA and BA from the University of Waikato. She has held previousappointments at The University of Auckland, Unitec Institute of Technology and the University of Nottingham. Professor Fitzgerald is the author of numerous books and articles on the history of women’s education, and contemporary perspectives on leadership in higher education, including Outsiders or Equals? A History of Women Professors at the University of New Zealand 1911–1961 (2009), Travelling Towards a Mirage: Gender, Policy and Leadership in Higher Education (2010, with Jane Wilkinson), and Hard Labour? The Changing Nature of Academic Work (2011, with Helen Gunter and Julie White). She is editor of History of Education Review, coeditor of the Journal of Educational Administration and History, and a member of the editorial board of Paedagogica Historica.

About Jenny Collins

Jenny Collins is an associate professor of education at Unitec Institute of Technology, Auckland, New Zealand. She holds a PhD and an MEd from Massey University and a BA Honours from the University of Otago. Dr Collins’ research interests include the professional lives of women in higher education, international scholars and policy relationships between state and Catholic educational leaders. She has published in several journals such as History of Education, Journal of Educational Administration and History and History of Education Review.
