To my student comrades in the Higher Education department, Cindy Archerd and Lisa Schmidt, I am incredibly grateful for seeing me through many curricular and extracurricular projects with their fellowship, friendship, encouragement, and intellectual repartee. David Guston at Arizona State University provided friendship and fostered my professional development, in addition to offering a useful theoretical framework.
In Atlanta, I thank my colleagues and friends Salaam Semaan, Marta Gwinn, and John Miles for their encouragement, and especially Hugh Potter for reviewing the pre-publication manuscript. I am also grateful to colleagues Sheila Isoke, Clyde Hart, Nick DeLaTorre, and Karen Tao for their support. From the Emerging Leaders Program, my friends and peers Ellen Olson, John Castilia, and especially Elizabeth Skillen and Krista Crider, gave inspiration and encouragement. Outside work, Ronald Chmara was a wonderful supporter of my development and success, and Christo Morehead provided sage perspective that sustained me through the writing marathon. I am very grateful for the love, humor, and support of Michael Prime during the final stages of manuscript preparation, and to Mr. P for his constant companionship for the entire duration of this project.
I have been blessed with my inspiring grandparents Ralph & Betty LaFontaine, my stepdad John Skeeles, and my parents Celia Skeeles and David Leinhos, with their unending love, support, and pride, even as three of you are sadly no longer here to witness the completion of this project. You never stopped believing in me, throughout my education process.
Thank you all, I could not have written this book without you.
