Is autonomy in reading possible? By what strategies might we notice when our responses are being shaped by external influences?1

Recently, I acquired some software which tells me when the information stored on my computer is in danger of degrading. Is there a corresponding operation the reader might perform on himself to discover whether or not he has been corrupted?
