A Foreword With More Than Four Words: Nine Brief Ruminations and One Poem

I am sitting in the palliative care unit of the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Canada. My father is living and dying with a brain tumor that has stolen much of his speech and even more of his spirit. In this liminal space between living and dying, I am ruminating on memories, and experiences, and questions of love, relationship, ethics, and spirituality. And I am ruminating on the wisdom of Avraham Cohen’s Gateway to the Dao-Field: Essays for the Awakening Educator.
