I would like to express my appreciation to the many people involved in all aspects of MacArthur Park's revitalization who shared their experiences. They have inspired me to publish this book with the aim of telling MacArthur Park's complex revitalization story and showing how redevelopment can actually improve a neighborhood.

My heartfelt thanks go to my family, who has always believed in my work. I am humbly and eternally grateful to my mother, Delia Sandoval, whose sacrifice and love have always motivated me to make the most of what I have and to contribute as best I can. She also brought into my life, from my birth in Guatemala, Dr. Eugene Boostrom, who along with everything else has been my informal advisor and editor throughout the writing process; I thank him for the loving support he has given me. My loving wife, Franchesca Monique Sandoval, has been at my side since I started my studies, I thank her for her loving patience and support in this long and still-continuing journey. I hope that our sons, Julio and Giovanni Sandoval, will find inspiration in our family and perhaps even in this book that will lead them to seek new knowledge and embark on a path that has heart.
