Acknowledgments
There are several people I have to thank for their personal and professional support and encouragement. Most of all, I would like to thank Dr. James Babin, whose critical eye, assistance with revision, and patience were so important to the creation of this book. I would also like to thank Dr. Stephen C. Brennan, who first introduced me to the discipline of textual editing and challenged me to write my first paper on the editing of Jennie Gerhardt. He was also instrumental in helping get this first paper recognized by the academic community and, later, published. I am extremely grateful to the Jim and Ethel Dickson Research Fund, which gave me the financial assistance to buy books and other research materials necessary for extensive revision. Personally, I must first thank my husband, George, who has been more than patient during these past ten years. His encouragement and support kept me moving forward even when I didn't think I could write another word. His love and devotion to me and my interests make everything I do worthwhile. I would also like to thank my sister, Jennifer, who, on many occasions, acted as my unpaid assistant. She accompanied me on trips, took notes, photocopied materials, and brought me coffee in the mornings.
