Chapter 1: | Introduction |
Self-Efficacy
The study utilized the definition of self-efficacy provided by Bandura (1989):
People's judgment of their capabilities to organize and execute courses of action required to attain designated types of performances. It is concerned not with the skills one has but with judgments of what one can do with whatever skills one possesses. (p. 395)
Summary
This chapter provided the background for the study and the theoretical framework of contextualized science curriculum. These considerations support both the assumption of need for the study and the problem statement. The significance and the rationale of the study were also presented. The proposed research questions provided the parameters and focus of the study, and definitions of key words provided their specific connotations in the context of this research study.
