Writing this book was a long but exciting journey. I am deeply indebted to many people for their assistance and support while I was completing my work. First, I am greatly indebted to Manfred Pienemann, the architect of processability theory (PT), which I adopted as my framework. He originally guided me into the fascinating world of second language acquisition (SLA) when I was working under his supervision for my master’s thesis at the Australian National University. He gave me ever-insightful comments and valuable advice at crucial stages in my research. I was thrilled to write a chapter with him, along with Bruno Di Biase, for Extending Processability Theory in 2005. The experience of working with them guided my commitment to SLA research.
