A Special Thanks and “Obrigado” Apart
James Henry Kennedy is someone that I could always count on to know the right answer to my many questions about Brazil, his adopted country. And thankfully, if the answer eluded him, his myriad contacts in the area of Brazilian culture were there to help him to help me. In essence, Professor Kennedy is one of the most erudite Brazilian culturists that I have ever met. My requests to refer to his holdings of Brazilian books, articles, magazines, and newspaper collections were never denied.
I must also acknowledge a source that I will not hesitate to contact again when the need arises: the Orange County (Florida) Library System. Not only was I amazed at how efficiently the Interlibrary Loan system functioned, but the luxury of having materials delivered to my door was unique. My sincerest gratitude to everyone involved.
Nota bene:
I, the author, am responsible for all translations from Spanish to English, unless otherwise noted. Likewise, I am to be held accountable for the Portuguese language entries that required an English translation. At times, I consulted with Professor Kennedy for his learned input where indecision rested with idiomatic phrases and cultural terms in Portuguese, but ultimately the final decision of what to include, revise, or reject in the area of translations/interpretations was my obligation. I alone am answerable for the final result, positive or negative.
