Its Structures
In this chapter, some key terms and concepts pertinent to studies of narrative and its structure—such as events, plots, and story logic—will be discussed. The pivotal issues that the present study aims to address in the following chapters will also be outlined and some justification will be provided.
2.1. Narrative, Events, and Plots
Narrative is a term that is difficult to define in both literary theory and discourse analysis. Toolan (1998) claimed that ‘[n]early everyone has a strong sense of what is a narrative and what is not a narrative, but failsafe definitions are hard to come by’ (p. 136). With regard to problems with definitions on narrative,
