The aim of this chapter is to provide background information about Senegal, with a brief overview of its history and its location in Africa. Brief History

Prior to the arrival of the Europeans, what is presently known as Senegal was made up of precolonial empires such as Walo, Jolof, Baol, Cayor, and Cadior.
