from 1975 to 2008. Dr. Wood is the author of several widely used books on early American slavery, including Black Majority and Strange New Land. He is the coauthor of a recent US history survey text entitled Created Equal. In 1988 he worked with art scholar Karen Dalton on the groundbreaking exhibition and book entitled Winslow Homer’s Images of Blacks: The Civil War and Reconstruction Years, and he is the author of Weathering the Storm: Inside Winslow Homer’s ‘Gulf Stream.’ In 2009 Dr. Wood delivered the Nathan I. Huggins Lectures at Harvard, which resulted in a book entitled Near Andersonville: Winslow Homer’s Civil War (Harvard University Press).
