About the Authors (the Shrinking Regions Research Group)

Peter Matanle is Lecturer at the University of Sheffield’s School of East Asian Studies, where he also gained his PhD. His research interests are in the economic sociology and cultural geography of work in Japan and the United Kingdom. Dr Matanle is the author of several publications in these fields, including Japanese Capitalism and Modernity in a Global Era: Refabricating Lifetime Employment Relations (RoutledgeCurzon 2003) and Perspectives on Work, Employment, and Society in Japan (Palgrave 2006; coedited with Wim Lunsing). He has also published articles in Social Science Japan Journal, Local Environment, Japan Forum, Asian Business and Management, and Organization, and he is the founding general editor of the electronic journal of contemporary japanese studies.

Anthony S. Rausch is Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at Hirosaki University, Aomori Prefecture, Japan. He holds a degree in geography from the University of Minnesota, an MS from Hirosaki
