a fine group of scholars and I hope this work continues to build upon that reputation. This project has benefited greatly from observations and comments from Gary Bugh and Tony Nownes. Gary’s work on the Electoral College is first-rate and I sincerely appreciate his recommendations to improve my own. Tony has served as my “academic dad” for quite some time now, and I do not know where I would be today without him. He has been an outstanding mentor and friend. He has also provided considerable help with this research over the years. Of course, Toni Tan deserves praise for her professionalism, collaboration, and positive energy. I should also acknowledge the founders of Grooveshark and Pandora, for many nights were spent listening to their stations. In fact, almost all of this book was written with the sounds of Radiohead or the Foo Fighters in the background.

I have always known that they would be there for me, regardless of the situation, and for that I will always be thankful. I have tried to serve as a similar inspiration to my children—Olivia, Anabel, and Amelia. Through this project in particular, I hope to have taught them the values of hard work and perseverance. I am thankful that they have always had the ability to keep me grounded and to serve as constant reminders of what is truly important in life. Finally, my wife, Shelleigh,
