Matilda Hellman works for the Nordic Center for Welfare and Social Issues in Finland.
Jason Lee is Professor and Head of Film and Media with Creative and Professional Writing at the University of Derby. He holds a DPhil from the University of Sussex and an MA and a BA from the University of Warwick. Professor Lee is the author of more than one hundred books, chapters, and articles, including the books Celebrity, Pedophilia, and Ideology in American Culture; Pervasive Perversions; Cultural Ontology; and The Metaphysics of Mass Art. He is the editor of the journal and book series Transgressive Culture. His work has been translated into nine languages.
Atte Oksanen is a Senior Researcher at the Finnish Youth Research Society. Dr. Oksanen’s research focuses on mass violence, emerging technologies, and youth. He has published in a variety of areas, including youth studies, drugs and alcohol use, and media studies. His project “Images of Addiction in Rock Culture” (Academy of Finland 2009-2011, decision number 127003) focused on excessive alcohol and drug use, especially among internationally recognized rock stars. Dr. Oksanen’s work has been published in journals such as Substance Use & Misuse.
Nycole Prowse teaches literature and communications at the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC), Australia. She is currently undertaking her PhD studies at USC, and she holds an MPhil, a BA (Honours), and a Grad. Cert. in Teaching Second Languages from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia. Her current research focuses on literary representations of women and addiction. Her broader research base includes historical approaches to feminist discourse and philosophy as well as third-wave feminist concerns of culture and difference. Her previous conference papers and publications include “Mother Load[ed]: Literary Representations of Addiction and the ‘Monstrous’ Mother”; “Precarious Politics and Ethical Responsibilities: Teaching Gender in the Middle East”; and creative works of drama including two plays she produced, Snip and Alice.
