Getting Reel as a Non-Traditional Textbook
(The following brief explanation of Getting Reel as a non-traditional textbook describes the rationale behind the book. The reader may prefer to come back to this part of the book after having experienced the text itself.)
This book fully intends to be a “textbook.” To let Webster define our terms, a “textbook” is “a book giving instruction in the principles (emphasis added) of a subject of study.” Perhaps most textbooks rightly add copious facts to illustrate those principles, but this textbook questions the necessity of that common practice. Learning theory and research has shown that most of the specific facts a teacher teaches students are forgotten.
