My original study was undertaken because there was a lack of research on the impact of Internet filters on student learning. That is still the case. Nearly everyone else focuses on the legal arguments or the technical effectiveness or the philosophical First Amendment debate. The limitations of my study are evident: it is one filter in one school district with one predominant socioeconomic class. However, the qualitative methods that were used dig deeply into what is actually going on in that school and reveal the severe frustrations of students and teachers alike. More research is certainly welcome that is broader in scope and sample size. But my prediction is that the results will be the same.
