Our own family farm—still operating and still in the family—received its due recognition at the Iowa State Fair this year, earning the Heritage Award for more than one hundred and fifty years of continuous family ownership. One hundred and fifty years takes us well beyond the golden age featured in this collection—well south of 1880—to the middle life of Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau.
