Although some aspects of “crisis communications” have been employed by Christian churches in the wake of The Da Vinci Code sensation, the Church’s dilemma, for the most part, falls short of traditional public relations markers for crisis management status.
To be clear, many church officials and theologians were impelled to form a response to what they believed were pernicious lies from the pen of Dan Brown. Archbishops, clergy, and other constituencies in Christian ideology believed a counterattack necessary to straighten the record for the sake of history and to uphold the very sanctity of the Bible itself.
