Our research approach is unusually labor intensive in that it involves travel to archives—often for days at a time—and separates us from our families. Elizabeth Rothrock and Colin Frisch, as well as Sheen Rajmaira and Shriya Kelly, demonstrate an unusual forbearance for our travels, and that tolerance makes our research possible (and eases our feelings of guilt!). Furthermore, when the chips were down and funding from outside sources was not enough, the CEOs of the Frisch Foundation (Rothrock) and the Kelly Charitable Trust (Rajmaira) allowed small grants (by way of MasterCard and Visa) to keep our research moving forward.
