I knew from reputation that Mr. Lee was a respected, indeed, beloved figure in the Korean theatre, but nothing could have prepared me for the hushed tones and reverential bows that greeted this unassuming playwright. His elevated position in the Korean theatre was manifest at that moment. In this present anthology, two of Mr. Lee's protégés not only advance the study of Korean dramatic literature; their translations provide insights into Kang-baek Lee's universal humanity and his unquestioned contributions to Korean culture.
