NARRATOR: (Explains to the audience about the stage and characters.) We are in the wilderness. There is a watchtower built high to alarm the people of wolf attacks. This soaring tower is surrounded by the sky. As the play progresses, the sky will reflect the time change from dusk to the night of the crescent moon, and to morning. Please turn your attention up there. A watchman is sitting there. Since he is sitting so high on the watchtower with his back to the sun, he is seen only in dark silhouette. He has been a watchman ever since I was born. My old man used to tell me that he also heard the story of this very famous watchman when he was a child. Surely my dad heard it from his dad. Now the watchman on the watchtower has become a legendary figure. And there are other watchmen who are of our time. They are ready to beat tin drums under the watchtower. Once the watchman on
