The third part of the survey, a focus group meeting with African leaders, further enhanced the study because these presented the perspectives of the major players who are driving the present and future of this community.

2.4. Analysis: Sociocultural Profiles of Guangzhou’s Chocolate City

Demographics and Sociolinguistic Profiles

The following figures and charts profile the population in terms of age, gender, nationality, and profession.

Age

As can be seen in table 2.1 and figure 2.1, 241 respondents out of 311, or some 80% of my interviewee population, were between 25 and 40 years old.

This indicates that a relatively young population was involved. Indeed, the Africans who come to Guangzhou are usually in the working-age group—people in their economic prime, so to speak.
