Chapter 4: | Sicilian Folklore and American Comics |
Wind, Water and Honor
One day in ancient times Wind, Water and Honor met as they were walking. They embraced and talked about what they had done and what they would like to do.
Water told the story of the time it transformed itself into a river, irrigating gardens, powering windmills and giving joy to thirsty people.
Wind said that it also powered windmills and without it sailboats could not sail, and later when it had nothing else to do, it went for walks with the clouds amid trees and on mountaintops.
Honor said: “I cannot perform miracles like those you describe, but I hold men in my fist, and though I appear to be nothing, when a man possesses me he possesses a great deal.”
After their conversation Wind said: “Where can each of us be found for another meeting?”
Water replied: “Find me in the fountains.”
“And if they are dry?” asked Wind.
“Then you can certainly find me in the sea.”
Water asked Wind where it could be located.
“When I am free from work, you can find me on top of Mongibello where I play with the clouds.”
Wind and Water turned to Honor and asked where it could be found?
Honor replied: “That is not a valid question. If you lose me just once, you will not be able to find me again.”
