About the Author

T. P. Schwartz-Barcott is a sociologist (PhD, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill) who has taught sociology and conducted sociological research at Brown University, Providence College, the University of Connecticut, and the University of Delaware. His sociological research has appeared in The Sociological Quarterly, Footnotes of the American Sociological Association, Teaching Sociology, and other journals and anthologies. Currently, he is the director of Social Research Services, a research and consulting firm in Rhode Island.

He was raised in both Monessen and Latrobe, Pennsylvania, and is the grandson of immigrant coal miners and steel workers who worked in local mines and mills.
