holocausts in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and the nuclear arms races. Although the scientists tried hard to contain the damage, their efforts to close the box were in vain. The world faced threats of nuclear Armageddon. The only consolation seemed to be the hope for peaceful uses of atomic energy.
