Foreword

When I first received the manuscript for this book, I was somewhat taken aback by the title. I certainly had not realized the extensive evidence documenting the depth and breadth of racial issues within the Assemblies of God. I was raised in a denominational church which did not look very kindly toward the Pentecostal experience in the early ‘60’s. After a brief sojourn for about a year in an independent Pentecostal church, our family joined the Assemblies of God. During the past 38 years I have studied at an Assemblies of God College (4 years), pastored an Assemblies of God church (7 years), and served at two Assemblies of God colleges—North Central University, formerly North Central Bible College, (Professor; Vice President of Academic Affairs, 21 years) and Valley Forge Christian College, (President, 9 years).

Needless to say, I have been a part of the Assemblies of God most of my adult life. And, as I read Dr. Newman’s careful research, I realized there were dark realities within the Assemblies of God that I did not know.
